Is there really still a need to break a dollar 100 times?

The smarty thing to do would be to elevate the value of the penny to 10 cents and the nickel to 25 like the original concept probably called for and abandon making quarters, then make a new design for the quarter sized coin and label it as a half dollar.

Those coins aren't really worth their weight in anything but the cost to make them and it's just a matter of time before something will need to be done that doesn't cost a ton in planchets and minting machinery.

So what if a few people get a big profit from their coffee can of pennies when you just know that on the other side of things people will stop throwing coins worth a dime in manufacturing costs on the ground.
