Is it better to pick numbers when playing the lottery or having the machine pick numbers for you?

I really want to play the lottery, I have done it a few times. But today I need to know where I'm going wrong.

It's random chance. I just use the random generator from the machine, because it literally makes no difference

@firefall So your saying it's a matter of luck? But I heard the generated ones never win?
firefall · 61-69, M
@SaintAdelaide no, that's nonsense - someone spreading another urban myth. It really is just down to luck.

In terms of getting winning numbers in general, doesn't matter. HOWEVER, people choose numbers in a non-random way, tending to favor birthdays and a few other things. So, if you were to play and if you were to win, you'd be less likely to share a jackpot if the machine picked your winning numbers.
I don't think it matters either way. You might as well just pick 1,2,3,4,5,6 and 7 and hope for the best.

@MrBlueGuy it can't be that simple my friend.
@SaintAdelaide Well not really statistically the odds of 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 are just as likely to come in as any other random combination of numbers you pick.

Technically the better odds lie in picking the same numbers all the time

Pick them yourself. Look at old trends of how lottery numbers have come up.

The odds of winning are why you don't win.
