In D&D what class do you like to play and why?

Do keep in mind the consequences and risks of being low level with your class- almost anything can kill or KO a lv.1 mage in one hit.

Personally I like to be a crazy mage or mage/thief who functions as the comic relief in the group- too useless to be of much help but a genius who can come through when the rest of them are too incompetent to figure something out- while being awesome. And whom keeps getting on the paladins nerves with my magical fun. (I really wanted to make those goblin head talking puppets)

My favourite character was a gnome illusionist/thief, a very slippery character indeed. I liked the illusionist class because there was a lot of scope for creative use.

Otherwise, I liked magic-users because nukers are fun and I enjoyed the challenge of keeping them alive in the beginning.

Note: I only ever played first edition AD&D

@SW-User Gnomes get a +1 to int allowing them to hit 19 int right off the start which makes them perfect for mages. And mage/thieves are a lot of fun to play because when you run out of spells you at least have your thief skills to fall back on, while still using class appropriate armor. (light)

BARD BARD BARD BARD

Bards just feel like jacks of all trades, I like being able to cast both wizard and cleric spells. Also they're so fucking handy to have in later levels. Super fun!

@NorthernRoses True, bards are awesome. Plus you can do some more musical interactions.
