I have been for the last 11 years since moving off grid. It is a necessity when living above 10,000ft with wind and snow in the winter and it's minus 40° outside. A nut a bolt, a spare solar system component, an extra belt for the snow mobile etc, possibly stored in a shed for years will eventually be needed when you need it most.
With this freedom comes a lot of personal responsibilty and hoarding 'stuff ' is a big part of it. :)
