Why do people actually take these conspiracies seriously?

First: Chemtrails-- if a higher group of people wanted to let a poison into the air to slowly kill the population, they would be affected as well. If these planes are covering up a secret planet, those dinky little thin clouds aren't hiding much..
Second: flat earth-- why should I even have to explain why this is the dumbest one of them all? Don't you think if there was an edge of the earth, someone would have discovered it by now? And even if the earth was flat, what would make it such a big deal to where our governments would want to hide that from us? Also, the moon, sun and every other thing in outer space is a sphere, you really think earth is the only flat surface out there? Even when these idiots try to explain why they think it's flat, it makes no sense...
