@Cindy what did Michael Rennie's character Klatuu in The Day the Earth Stood Still and Paul Newman's character Luke in Cool Hand Luke have in common?
Cindy · F
@Jibby went to school together. That was a hard one and I don't even Google
Cindy · F
@Jibby wait both got killed in the end gosh I don't know
Jibby · 56-60, C
@Cindy they were both reference to Jesus. Klaatu took the name of Carpenter that happened to be on some clothes he grabbed from a dry cleaners.. and Luke in Cool Hand Luke laid on the table after eating all those hard boiled eggs for a bet splayed out like Christ on the cross. Both Jesus figure references because they were sacrificing themselves for those around them
Cindy · F
@Jibby Oh and at the end in the church where Luke was laying on the ground like a crucified Jesus I get it, and Luke talks to God for the first time in a long time two of my favorite movies actually

@Cindy no he was laying on the table in the barracks after eating the hard-boiled eggs with all those other guys living vicariously through him because they didn't fight Authority

@Cindy @Jibby I had an edited that and yes those are my two favorite movies of all time.
Cindy · F
@Jibby oh yeah that's right my bad you're right I'm just a little tired
Jibby · 56-60, C
@Cindy that's okay. I'm really passionate about explaining those movies to people. I have a lot of retro sci-fi movie posters and probably more Day the Earth Stood Still than any I even had The Harry Bates short story " Farewell to the Master " cover made into poster size.. I wish they would do that as a movie to tell The Day the Earth Stood Still story slightly different

@Jibby "Mort"
Jibby · 56-60, C
@Cindy that f****** spaceship was so legitimate that would stand up today I believe. As a kid I fantasized about having it and traveling the universe mostly not to have to go to school anymore and I loved Gort the robot
Cindy · F
@Jibby Gort, sorry not Mort, I always like the movie Forbidden Planet because of the special effects and the music that they use at the time was very impressive for that time

@Cindy that's my second favorite sci-fi movie from then. My mother got me into all those movies I love the story of those beings that were gone for millions of years. I forgot what they were called but it was such a cool concept.
Cindy · F
@Jibby I can't remember either right now I got a few beers in me but it was like their own minds or something cause the power of the Ancient Aliens, I've always loved old films but the science fiction and horror movie genre was always my favorite
Jibby · 56-60, C
@Cindy yes it makes me think that there is so much out there that they're very well may be planets where beings millions of years more evolved than us. have came and went and there's just an abandoned quiet planet that would never reveal that secret. What a shame that we can't exist long enough to ever go on an adventure like that
