How would you handle someone "Lying by omission"? Do you think it's as bad as an outright lie?

Liars will lie, but lying by omission shouts 'I am weak AF and prefer to avoid any confrontation'. It's so frustrating. Any lying insinuates the liar doesn't trust you with their truth, which is a very uncomfortable reality to accept.
