@peterlee My mother had one sister (Juliette) and eight brothers. Pop had only brothers. So my other aunts were by marriage. I did also have a great aunt, my maternal grandfather’s sister, who was in my life until I was about 17. She was amazing.
You always think your grandparents were always old, never young and having sex. My great grandmother had twelve children, starting at eighteen and finishing at forty two. She died at forty four leaving my grandmother to look after the younger ones as her own. She also had her first child at eighteen.
So I had numerous great aunts and uncles.
The oddest one was great aunt Nellie, who regarded my mother as her younger sister, aunt Agnes, disliked her, because great aunt Nellie was younger than her, not her sister, but her aunt! If you can understand that you are better than me, I never could. Yet I knew them both well.
