π Private Posts π· for your Friends & Circles Only π§βπ€βπ§ππ¬π«
Similar Worlds has now added the ability for users to create Private (Circle/Friends Only) Posts!
Steps:
βοΈ Create a New Post: https://similarworlds.com/post
βοΈ Select a Post Type
βοΈ Write your Post Title & Content
... then in the options available below the post content box, users should now see the following options:
Visible to: π Everyone| π Circle/Friends
"Private Posts" allow users to communicate much more freely and openly, with a form of privacy, between trusted Friends and Acquaintances.
Posts marked as "Visible to Circle/Friends", can only be Seen and Accessed by those in the poster's Circle and Friends Lists.
Once a post has been created as "Private" (Circle/Friends), it cannot be converted into Public (Everyone) thereafter (for privacy reasons, to the existing commenters).
We hope that you will be able to enjoy and make good use of this and other new features we have worked hard on and released for you all!
Kind regards! -SW Staff

Had a think about it, still can't see how this will improve SW. Surely replying to posts is how we make friends here? It's a bit like going into a pub and being told to sit in a quiet corner because you're an outsider and no one wants you hearing their conversations. Worst idea ever.
@RubySoo Pardon my language but it's the shittest idea ever, it clearly hasn't been thought through. Perhaps they're experts at making friends in an empty room.
@DontLikeMondays its something i once thought id like.....i guess that when i actually had a large circle of friends here.....but i dont anymore....so i think i'll feel left out.....as would many others.
@RubySoo I think it's best to add those who we get on with over a period of time rather than just add people to boost the numbers, so I've got a grand total of 5 friends. I can't see newcomers hanging around very long, it will be a bit like the new kid at school being sent out for break alone in an empty playground.

Sure, for the Posts that are Public (which will continue to exist).
Whoever wants to make a post that is only visible for the already-established friends, then they will have the option to. The idea of "Friends-only" posts isn't to make new friends, but to share stuff with existing friends.
People will continue to create public posts, which you can interact with, to make new friends. That's not changing.
@Nuno On another note, how do I get my reports of user harrassment acted on? I make reports and don't get a response for weeks while others have their reports acted in right away.
@Nuno I understand that and it's a good idea as a form of group chat, however when groups of people make a habit of making their posts private it will have a detrimental effect. The posts are slow as it is, it will be even slower once the popular people shut themselves away and new members will take one look and not come back. I hope I'm wrong but I can't see this site benefitting in any way from this change. Perhaps a group chat option would have been better?
@DontLikeMondays i like that idea. Also, we could do that with people who arent necessarilly on our friends lists..but people we just had something in common with on a post.
@RubySoo That's right, a nice way to get to know others too. I already see posts that are specifically aimed at one or two others, which could easily have benefitted from group chat instead of appearing for anyone to answer but I think the private post option will become a habit and the main page will dry up fast.
@DontLikeMondays The issue you're speaking about - of popular users only posting for their friends and less known and less popular users being isolated - has already happened as of several hours after the posting of this thread. This stupid site will now be "all about the in crowd" and too bad for the rest of us.
@theAlchemist My feed has stood still for an hour, I went outside to tidy the garden and came back to see the feed as it was when I left. It seems to me as if admin are only interested in keeping the 'cool gang' happy and to hell with everyone else.
@DontLikeMondays You're talking like if everyone has moved to Private Posts, trying to "prove a point". Our stats are just as we predicted - nothing changed in relation to Public posts (same amount), and people are just posting more, now that they have a choice to choose Private if they want. We don't see any drop in the number of Public posts.
@Nuno it seems many have. Those of us that flit about with almost every one but arent part of the popular cliques are just gonna see less and less and feel pushed out even more.
@Nuno Well my feed has almost ground to a halt, all I'm getting is alerts for posts i replied to yesterday and a new post every 10 mins or so, hardly busy enough to keep me occupied. Your brainchild will be the end up of this site, thank me for the warning as the curtain closesπ
