I'd like to know when you will stop punishing people for blocking someone who harasses you in a post by not letting us back in there. AND are you working on keeping children and perverted men out of here? How is this verification thing at all useful or helpful? I can tell and show you anything...you don't know if it's really me

@Fernie hi,
I'd like to know when you will stop punishing people for blocking someone who harasses you in a post by not letting us back in there.
To aid in diffusing escalating altercations, it is usually best to allow Blocking between users to be site-wide and complete in every way.
Most users prefer it this way also.

Allowing one to continue to comment in the post of a member that has already blocked them, only allows the feud to continue and grow.
AND are you working on keeping children and perverted men out of here?
Yes, we have many measures in place to help protect minors on Similar Worlds from predatory adults.
We do take many actions in the protection of children on this site.

Completely agree with that statement.

@Andrew I'm not talking about the poster...I'm talking about someone who harasses the people who comment. I block them because they are offensive...that means I don't have to communicate with them in that post but I can't get back in there even though It was not me who was the problem. Why assume it will escalate? Once that rude person is blocked...there it ends.Either I have to put up with him in that post or I'm not able to continue the CIVIL conversation I was having. MANY people have agreed with me on this. That's about my only serious complaint about this site. I very much enjoy it here but really wish you would change that policy
Andrew · Admin
@Fernie, if you are the one that blocked the OP (original poster/post owner), then you may simply unblock them until you've finished your discussion in that post.

Post owners will always have a bit more control over their own post than other commenters.
It has always been this way across almost any online social site or forum.

Blocking (on either side) will bar you from entering their posts, but you obviously cannot bar them from their own posts.

It would cause a lot more trouble if one were not able to stop stalkers/trolls/harassers from commenting and harassing in every post they made, even after blocking them.

Exactly. Couldn't have said it better.

@Fernie

If a person wants to comment on one of my stories or questions, I'm fairly open-minded about letting them speak their opinions. But there's always that one in a crowd that crosses over the line.

All in all, SW's blocking feature is one of the many things I really like about this site. I've blocked some people who I find personally offensive because of their posts and don't wish to interact with them at some point later when I might not recall what they had said or posted. And some because of their repeated dishonesty in posting about an issue. And some others for harassment.

Fernie, if you've blocked someone because they're just being rude, so be it. That's fine. So why would you want to continue to interact with them?

If you've blocked them because they are being harassing and you believe in violation of terms of service, consider reporting them.

@Andrew I'm not talking about the poster...I'm talking about someone who goes into that post, just like I do, and is obnoxious. That person gets blocked for being obnoxious by me and then I can no longer go into that post. Why am I (anyone) unable to return? I can't communicate with that person anymore so why can't I get back there? It's like I am being punished for someone else's sin
Andrew · Admin
@Fernie, if the user you Blocked is not the post owner, then you should not be blocked from returning to the post, unless the post owner also Blocked you.

You may not be able to see the Blocked user's comments/sub-thread however.

@Fernie
Why am I (anyone) unable to return?
It could also be because the author of the original post deleted the story or question.
Fernie · F
@beckyromero No. I go into a post. I make a comment. Some other member becomes obnoxious. I block him. I am not able to get back in. Why don't you get that? It isn't really fair that the person who did the blocking of someone obnoxious to be kept out of the post.

@Fernie
I go into a post. I make a comment. Some other member becomes obnoxious. I block him. I am not able to get back in. Why don't you get that?
I have not encountered that.

But if that is the case, then the solution is simple. If you are not interacting with that person, then don't block him. Interact on that post with others but without regards to him or her. You'll just have to weigh the benefit of interacting with others vs. the annoyance of reading something obnoxious.

Look at it as watching the evening news. I want to know what's going on but at some point the TV screen is going to be filled with a pic of Trump's face.
