☑ [big][c=#004A59]SW Verification Badge - Confirmed Updates[/c][/big] 🏅

Hello to all SW Members!
Thanks for the feedback you've shared regarding your thoughts on our recent Verification Photo feature.

The SW Team has discussed ways on which we can make changes to accommodate much more of our member base.

[sep]

Here are some changes/improvements we have planned and are working on to be released soon:

• Show Verification Badge and Link on Profile Only

• Ability to "Heart" ❤ Verified Photos

• Watermark on Verification Photos

• Toggle your Verification Badge & Photo settings/type:
○ Show Verified Photo to Everyone
○ Show Verified Photo to other Verified users
○ Do not show Verified Photo to anyone

□ Show Verified Photo to Friends I added

Your Verification Badge Icon may change dynamically, depending on the options you choose.
Similar to this example:

[sep]

Apart from the changes to this new Verification Photo feature, we will also be working on other ways for members to recover their SW account in the case of losing access.

Other SW account recovery options we may have available in the near future:

• Secondary Email Address

• Phone Number

• Secret Question and Answer

Please note that us adding a new mode of account recovery/verification to SW recently has no bearing on our willingness to add additional recovery options.

Such a complex website has requires immense amounts of development, and a lot of time and work is needed to complete each additional feature.

The order in which we release features on SW will always be subjective to users, as users will always have different needs, wants and priorities.

[sep]

Our original idea for having the Verification Photo system was a two-fold approach which helps:

1) In recovering ones account if they were to lose access.

2) For those who are public about their image (shares photos of themselves on SW) they would have some additional validity in their claims that they are the person in said photos.

The Verification Badge is not intended to show who what members are trustworthy or not, only to help verify that someone is who they claim to be publicly.

It isn't very possible for us to "Verify" someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

We have however planned these changes to this feature to promote more inclusiveness on this Verification Badge feature.

[sep]

[c=#BF0000]Please remember above all, such features of Verification or Account Recovery are, and will always be OPTIONAL. :)

You are not being forced to use this or pretty much any other feature of Similar Worlds against your will.

If you are worried about your privacy, then please simply do not upload any personal images of yourself.

If you do not claim to be a certain person displayed in shared photos, then you have absolutely nothing to worry about regarding misrepresenting your personal appearance.[/c]

[sep]

Thanks again!
We look forward to your continued Feedback and Support.

Thank you for listening to the feedback.

The accounts settings state about verifying your account makes you a more trusted member, many SWers are interpreting this to mean you are not trusted if you haven't verified your account. Could the wording be changed?

:)
Andrew · Admin
@InOtterWords You're welcome, and thank you. :)

We have revised the wording of this sentence.
It will be updated on the next minor release, which may be soon.
Andrew · Admin
@InOtterWords The change should be Live already now.

I hope this is better and more clear:
Verifying your account will allow you to recover your account if you happen to lose it.
Verifying with a Public Photo can help to authenticate one's identity, for those who share images of themselves on Similar Worlds.
@Andrew brilliant, thank you

@Andrew The damage is pretty much already done. Regardless of your intent (which I do believe is good), this feature's interpretation as a way of seeing who is trustworthy and who is not, is unlikely to go away.

Just kill the feature. It is wrong for SW. You put up a poll, don't just ignore its results because you don't like them.

@RoboChloe i disagree with that sentiment. It is optional, very few have chosen to vwrify thwir accounts and those that haven't shoukd not feel under pressure to do so. I certainly don't, and if anyone does try and suggest otherwise can go sling their hook. Its not mandatory, it won't become mandatory there is nothing to remain upset about.

@InOtterWords
those that haven't shoukd not feel under pressure to do so. I certainly don't
Wonderful. Some of us do though.
there is nothing to remain upset about.
I think it's a pretty terrible feature in principle, and an absolute abomination in implementation. There is a lot to remain upset about.

You're allowed to disagree, to have a different viewpoint on the matter, that's fine. I have no problem with that. But please, don't tell me how I should feel.
@RoboChloe but it's an optional feature.

Why do you feel under pressure?
RoboChloe · 26-30, F
@InOtterWords I'm so tired of explaining this. Not being verified makes you seem less trustworthy. What the admins intended is irrelevant. To some people, not having that tick makes you untrustworthy. I don't want to be untrustworthy.

Verification creates a greater and lesser class of SW member. I am opposed to that.

Also, I'd like access to account recovery. The fact that they will at some point in the future add more options for it doesn't change that, right now, verification is the only option.
@RoboChloe you know, i have not seen a single user actually say that not verifying your acvount makes you untrustworthy. I have seen them say people are crazy if they thonk that which is also unnecessary and i have seen a lot of abuse hurled at tjose choosing to verify their acvount but i have not seen a single post or comment about anyone saying that unverified users cannot be trusted.
SW-User
@RoboChloe That green tick reminds me of the star jews had to wear...they were told it was just for "identification" issues. I dont want any "tick" or any mark by my name...I´d feel like cattle b eing marked by the owner.
@SW-User seriously?

If you think this optional green tick on a social media website is anything close to what the Jews put up with in Nazi Germany then you really have a poor understanding of the holocaust. I really thonk this is the most idiotic statement i have ever read on here.

@InOtterWords
i have not seen a single user actually say that not verifying your acvount makes you untrustworthy.
Good for you. I have.
I hope that you reported it because anyone intimidating others on this site should be referred to admin. @RoboChloe

@InOtterWords
i have not seen a single post or comment about anyone saying that unverified users cannot be trusted.
@RoboChloe

Maybe it's because nearly all unsolicited requests for pics are sent in personal messages, not in public posts.

And these requests continue even though a member may have stated in her profile "don't ask for pics, skype, phone #" etc.
even if it is in PM if someone is intimidating another user saying that because they are unverified they cannot be trusted they can be reported. @beckyromero
