The SW Team is pleased to provide you with an update of what has been implemented since our last announcement last week.
• Message Introduction 💌 and Privacy Improvements
We have released a great new feature: Message Introduction.
Your Message Introduction appears to users in the moment they are about to compose their first message to you.
With this, you can let users know what type of private conversations you are interested in having or what you are not, what they can expect when contacting you, or anything else on your mind.
• Privacy Improvements
You can now make messages from Users who you have Muted be sent to your Messages Requests, unless you already have a conversation with them in your Inbox.
This is a new option in your "Filter Messages" settings (accessible through your Messages page). ☑ Users who I have Muted
In addition, if you want to move a conversation from your Inbox to your Messages Requests, there is now a new button Ignore Messages that does that:
Contrariwise, you can also move messages from your Messages Requests to your Inbox:
• Remove Followers 🔒
You can now remove Followers.
Removing a user from Followers will also restrict the user from following you again.
If you want to allow that user from following you in the future, you can remove the block very easily, so that they can follow you again: https://similarworlds.com/settings-blocked-followers
• A few other Improvements to Friends lists
- We now show the user names instead of "SW User", if the user has canceled their profile and they are still on your Friends list (only you can see the real name).
- You can now see the time at which someone Followed you, or when you Followed someone, in your Friends/Followers lists.
• New Image Max-Size 🏖🏝🌄
We have increased our maximum image/photo size from 650x600 to 720x720.
This allows our users to upload bigger photos to Similar Worlds, improving the quality of the images shown on posts and messages.
• Other Relevant Improvements 🛠
• We are now line-breaking big links on posts, to make them easier to select and copy.
• Loads of improvements to the popup position and size, especially when the keyboard opens. (a good example is the Insert Image popup, which we found a bit dificult to use on Mobiles)
• We don't allow posting nested replies on a Comment from someone that is blocked, anymore.
• The "Show Less" (of a user) action can now be found through the Profile button: "Mute/Block/Report".
• Multiple improvements to Scrolling and Navigation on SW.
💡 If you find any weird behavior in our system, please let us know straight away by sending any of the admins a Private Message or an email to us. This is the best way to reach us and ensure that we will look into the problem as soon as possible.
---
Thank you for your support and we hope you continue to stay with us.
We are constantly listening to your suggestions, so please keep giving them to us, as they are very important to the future of Similar Worlds.
Nuno (Hmm...almost Portuguese!). At any time, are the SW 'wizard texhnology team' considering removing the indicator bar which states that the message has been deleted? It tarnishes the post of the author and creates an impression that is not entirely favourable with the author's readership or the authors and authoresses. 'Newcomers' - as well as 'seasoned' authors - would be encouraged far more to create posts without the, often'obliterated, page-blemished and unsavoury remarks often scattered precariosly on that which they consider, rightly or wrongly, as 'their personal page'. It would be 'good for business' and perpetuate a far more constructed 'environment' amongst the authors and authoresses. Oh, and can we have a more regal robot. Perhaps, something like this:-
@EugenieLaBorgia yea I get what your saying leaving all the deleted status bars on your posts doesn’t really make it appear any better for the author much less those that reply to the post . I gotcha .
@Highonheels Yes and those who like to disrupt the posts intentionally do not have the pleasure to see their 'marks of mischief' displayed on the post itself. Those who have that malevolent intent to disrupt view these marks as though they were 'trophies'. It becomes an, almost, pathological desire to accrue such marks which, in their turn, encourage the miscreants to be even more disruptive. Authors and authoresses may liken it to those foregone days where ink and blotting-paper were used; nothing is worse than seeing words, often, thoughfully-composed, covered in ink blots. A well-presented script creates a healthy sense of literary accomplishment and encourages the writer to create more. I, for one, have no qualms in witnessing my comments - which some may find inappropriate - removed from their posts or comments. Refining the site, honing our emotional responses and our manner of literary expression creates a stimulating environment rather than one where 'internet sedition' is, sometimes, anticipated by authors and authoresses. In the corporeal world, our choices to impact on our societies are often curbed through the sheer number of opinions and actions, each, in their own turn, clamouring for some tiny shred of sinewy recognition. Here, on this site, our 'world' is more insular creating a greater cohesion amongst members and giving them the ability to impact on the course of the existence of that world with greater purpose and clarity. Finally: "You just gotta love that robot!!"
@Nuno I don't understand why you'll leave it simply because you don't consider it important. It's already implemented when past the page so obviously you have a way of checking the number of profiles and it can be adjusted to no longer show when reaching the last profile.
Similarly it shouldn't be hard to show more pages for groups and posts. These are day fixes.
Nuno There is no malfunctioning I'm aware of.
Several people have complained about this not being able to message people they should be able to or not being able to message someone back. Obviously there are some issues and like people have suggested the only censorship that should exist is through our own settings.
@Nuno You say there's no malfunctioning of the system you're aware of, yet I can't view the profile of someone I'm friends with and have to use another one to do it.
Thanks for all these great updates.! Hey Nuno: Im a new guy here and I am enjoying the site . You guys get it done right. But in my case...having a sometimes bold and blunt sence of humor... I managed to put my foot in my mouth in such a short time with some real cool people which I feel I have offended and have been blocked. If I had a chance to take it back I would definitely rethink the delivery of my humor that was offencive. -With that being said: I would like to submit a suggestion with SW. Once a person is blocked... Its impossible to apologize after the contact is closed. Is it possible to request a plea for forgiveness from the person that did the block. You know-letting them know that it was a misunderstanding and the chance to apologize. They can accept or deny the request. Probably in the heat of the moment they will most likely deny but they will be aware that an attempt to correct/apologize Has been made. In which case they have denied but knowing the regret from the blocked member. Then maybe a week later,,a final plea is allowed and maybe after the dust cleared ...Gain they may accept or deny the final plea. And either i can lose/save a friend ? ---hoping for a positive response. 😬 Thanks Nuno for you time. ---- Socram-
@MeisterAndrew They did sell t-shirts at one time.👕I got one and then months later got the returned check?! 😁I was laughing about it on EP and one of the staff members saw my post, she just said "I'm glad we could at least gift you with a shirt." 😯I asked if she wanted me to resend the money but I never got a reply, haha!
I like the new message introduction feature and I have typed up an intro but I would now like to edit it but I can’t find a button which would allow me to edit my intro so how does that work
@Highonheels Hello. Go to your Messages page, press "Edit your Message Introduction", and then below your message introduction preview, you have another button to Edit.
@Nuno @Jessa29 I've been using macOS Mojave beta, and SW seems to work fine in Safari private browsing in the new operating system. I hope it stays that way once it's GA. Don't know about iOS 12 though.
Cool stuff 😎 great job guys. Could I request something please? Where can I do that? I wanted to request some new gifts. Like in the study section. Some stationary etc.
Hey, @Nuno, or should I say, the other, darker-featured Jim Halpert: Do you ever get really irritated when all you wanted to do was post an update but everyone pounces with random, nonessential questions simply because there's a Mod around?
I couldn't actually care less about these cosmetics. Where is the group creating option that was promised and the user verification that people have been asking for?
Also breaking links is a no-no as they introduce whitespace you then have to manually remove when pasting them, unless I miss what you're saying.
@KandiGhostcat Before, we were showing this on your own Friends list, which was not helpful at all. Also, we didn't allow you to even remove that friend.
Instead, now we show the username and a "Remove" button, but only to you.
@BabyLonia Removing from Followers will only block from following you back. With PM, if the other person has deleted their side of the conversation with you, then the filters will re-apply next time you message them again. If the user is filtering by age/gender/friends/etc, then it can make your message arrive their Message Requests instead.
@bijouxbroussard Not to say it wouldn't come in handy by some in rare cases, the point is it us mostly abused and 90% of the time is just to create an echo chamber or a false dialogue. If the worst answer is a bad idea because it cod be abused, then op editing is way worse in that regard.
@MethDozer I don’t generally remove content unless I consider it abusive. And since I try not to be abusive if someone removes my content (and they have) simply because it disagreed with their POV, I don’t interact with them in future. There are plenty of other posters. It is a fact that some people don’t want an actual dialogue, no matter how civil.
