I joined Ep back when we could like or dislike each post- and like or dislike each reply to that post. I never had an issue with the dislike feature. The smart assed replies that were cold, when one needed and wanted support deserved that dislike. The "hearting" started about the same time as the metoo app did.
I am not so sure it fed negativity on the site at the time, Maybe it did. but the status of social media is a far cry , in 2018, from what it was in 2012. It may be an idea that is outmoded. But yet, on the review section of a Amazon page for a product we can say whether it helped- or not. A few others places that can be done as well. You tube for instance.--and some of the vile and hate filed flaming done on YT is terrible. BUT--most posts are not as such.
I thin a dislike option brings balance. Yes it is a support site but not all are going to agree with us. Be it our post or our comment on that post. I think by providing both option, to like or dislike the user is given both choice.
