Do you ever think that quantum mechanics is simply mathematical convenience

But really describes or explains nothing at all

Sometimes I do wonder, particularly when the mathematical rules themselves have to be changed in order to create an answer that works. I also wonder how, if in order to "see" a subatomic particle it has to be treated in a way that changes its position/situation, can we be sure we know what's going on, or does the very act of observation change the situation??
