What's happening to your body after you die ? in , Wales, you have to opt out of your organs being used, instead of opting in.

As a smoker and a drinker they'd only take my corneas

Wow, that's kind of amazing. Good choice from the Government

Kind of, don't like the idea of being an automatic property of government, but it doesn't take much to opt out, but also maybe if you opt out you shouldn't be taking anything out of the "bank" either.

I can see why you think that, I remember debating organ donation with a friend - but I'm also thinking that there's so many who forgets or doesn't care to sign up for donation.

@mercedes810: Think alot of people don't like to think about it.

@ajoite: I know, unless you're PC.

@mercedes810 actually millions of people sign up for donation. The problem is the circumstances of thier death. Anyone that receives an autopsy usualy can't donate except for things like skin and eyes.. these include auto fatalities (scene), homicides, suicides, and accidental /undetermined /suspicious deaths. Unfortunately most people under 40 fall into these categories.

Then there is the time factor. Many die and are not found in time to harvest viable organs.

Basically, most organ donations come from people who make it to the hospital, but die there. They can be quickly hooked up to ventilators to keep the organs viable

@Deadcutie Think I read about it a long time ago...
