I'm a consultant. I'd probably do something different with my law background if I were to start over again, though I can always and likely will change things sometime in the near future.

Yep you are not even 50 yet. You can. A friend of mine became a doctor when he was 55. He was a salesman before. He must have been around your age or older when he started studying towards that.
