On Sunday March 5 2023, former governor of Maryland Larry Hogan declared that he will not run for President in the Republican nomination in 2024.

Hogan, who resigned from office in January after two terms in office, acknowledged that he gave "serious consideration" running for president in 2024, adding that choosing not to do so was the toughest decision he had to make.

He also declared that he is not a candidate for president to focus on defeating former President Donald Trump. As a critic of Donald Trump, Hogan believes that by stepping away from the candidacy, it might make it more difficult for the former president to win the GOP presidential nomination.

“I have long said that I care more about ensuring a future for the Republican Party than securing my own future in the Republican Party. And that is why I will not be seeking the Republican nomination for president,” Hogan shares.

Trump, former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, and former biotech CEO Vivek Ramaswamy are among the contenders vying for the nomination for president in 2024 so far, but more are anticipated in the following months.

Maryland had a Democratic supermajority in both houses during both of his terms. He had to govern a lot closer to the Center than he might've been inclined to do, otherwise. Hence his reputation as a "reasonable" Republican.
