Let's talk about goals for a moment.
I don't know why, but I am finding myself eager to learn a new language. The most logical route to go would be to learn spanish, since it is the second most spoken language here in the states, but right now, spanish just doesn't appeal that much to me. I'm wanting to do something different.
In the military they havé something called the DLI - defense learning institute. This is a school consisting of 3 nine week classes, and English is practically shut out completely. Each 9 week session focused on a particular aspect of that language. About all I can remember right now are the language itself and the culture surrounding the language being learned.
