Why do people say they go/went to college when it's a university?

@scooogy That certainly seems easier than actually teaching people to spell.. (I shouldnt make fun of Basic Education in any country. Teachers have a really tough gig.)😷

@KiwiBird But Americans have this thing about dumping the letter "U" out of words, like Humour, Honour and Labour. You can see the problem in this case.😷
