🔄 Similar Match - Bug Fix Released 🐞

Hello everyone, thanks for all of your reports of errors you have encountered with our newly released Games thus far.

We have now addressed a significant Bug in the Similar Match game.

https://similarworlds.com/games/similar-match

It was not an very common bug that all players may have experienced,
however, it was very significant in impact, and it could completely ruin one's active game session.

What was being experienced by some players in this game, today, was a group of interrelated bugs, that may have likely stemmed from the same source.

If the Player was attempting to make new Matches/Swipes quickly, while the game is still finding and processing new Matches, in some occasions, odd behaviors could ensue, such as (but not limited to):

● Blocks Swapping in the Wrong Direction, when the swap attempt should be discarded.

● A Block moving into the Wrong Spot on the Grid, Overlapping another Block.

● A Block moving all the way down to the Bottom (outside) of the Grid, or some other non-valid place.

● The Player becoming unable to attempt any new Swaps or Matches.

● Upon restarting the Game, the Player cannot successfully make any New Swaps, and may even see a Negative Score appear.

We hope that this issue may be resolved now, with the update we have just released.

Please do feel free to try this game again, and report back if you happen to still experience this, or other bugs.

I'll also mention that this game is a bit complex internally, with lots of calculations simultaneously happening, lots of checks constantly being done, multiple times per second.

The bug that was experienced, was unwantedly introduced as a bit of a Trade-Off, for more Fluid Gameplay.

It would have been easier (for us) if we just enforced that the Player WAITS, until all Blocks completely stop moving, with no new Auto-Matches in sight;

However, this would slow down speed of play, and that added wait time before you can attempt a swap... can be a major hinderance.

We hope that we will be able to continue to quickly fix any other bugs / issues that appear to users in our SW Games.

Thanks again for Playing, and Reporting!

Kind regards,
-The SW Team

Can we have Chess between 2 players in here?

@TheOrionbeltseeker
We do plan to eventually have this.

We will have a phase of creating "Turn-based Games",
which will include Chess.

Not sure if this can help you out... but I encountered this a couple of minutes ago:

I think the leafes should pop right? But they ain't poppin'.

Thank you for reporting.

Is there any other information about this situation that you can recall?

For example:

- Did you see anything odd happen, before this occurred?

- Was there something specific you may have done, at or before the point this occurred (such as, attempting to Swap Blocks, while Matches were still happening).

I believe I saw similar occur before,
but usually stemming from the bug we recently addressed, which happens when swapping during an ongoing chain of matches.

I believe that one of the Color Blocks may have formed lacking one of the correct internal settings.

Sometimes, swapping around for a bit, seems to correct the issue (resetting the buggy Block, correctly).

We hope to find a permanent fix for this.

The only thing I noticed with this game... but also with the duck game. Is that glitches seem to happens after your 1st play through. If you refresh the entire page, and don't "reload" the game... things run smooth. But if you don't refresh the screen, things go bizar sometimes. With the block game, you sometimes can't move certain blocks. in the screen shot I could have removed 2 of the 3 leafes in a previous move. But the game didn't allow me to move the 3th leafe in place. So I played on, out of curriosity to create 3 in a row by making a leaf fall in place instead of shifting it. And then I got the state in the screenshot.

With the duck game, after restarting, the bigger monsters like the snakes, are sometimes comprimed in one hex. So you don't see a head, body and tail. You can only see a head or a tail but make 3 points (instead of the normal 1) after shooting that one spot. Making the game easier... but I don't think that was the original intention.

Well, it's a new feat... things don't always run as smooth as you want. As long as people give you feedback you guys will figure it out. Good luck.

Thanks again for the additional details.

We have indeed noticed this bug, and will have to work ono a fix for that.

It seems to generally happen if you play for a certain length of time, even in your first match (if you reach near/past "1000 points").

Likely a timer issue, we'll need to look into.

We will keep looking out for this behavior, during our testing,
and will try to resolve the issue as soon as we can.

This particular game seems to be more difficult to make completely Bug-Free, because of it's internal complexity, and the number of elements moving on-screen at the same time, as well as lots of calculations and constant checks for alignment and valid matches.
