Save the ducks bug?

At the beginning I press on things that have sharp looking teeth, receive no points. Then ducks with an x appear which I don't press on, and I'm still only pressing on the things with sharp looking teeth. After a little bit everything slows down then stops and game over.

I never press on the ducks with the x and I barely get any points. Is this a bug or something I'm doing wrong?
