Sad news in the world of chess
There was very sad news in the chess world yesterday, as Grandmaster Daniel (Danya) Naroditsky passed away unexpectedly. He was just 29 years old and was a well-known teacher and streamer, as well as being a very high-level player. His specialty was speed chess, and especially the very fastest games, known as bullet chess, with times of one minute or less per player.
If you want to understand just how good he was, check out this video where he plays Anna Cramling (a chess commentator and very strong player with a rating well over 2000) in two BLINDFOLDED blitz games. You may be particularly interested in the second game, where he has only 45 seconds to make all his moves, in addition to being blindfolded, and still manages to checkmate her. That game starts around the 5:40 mark. It's hard to understand how fast he is playing, as he seems to call out his moves at the same time as she makes hers. Plus the blindfold.
His passing is a terrible loss for the chess world, serious players and casual fans alike. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, Danya.
