On another note why do people have to make shit awkward?

So I met 5 new people today through other people I've met since I've been here. They're all white. (French, italian, Spanish, Danish) and two Americans. And yes, them being white is relevant to the story.

We're playing cards against humanity. Anyone who's played it knows it's supposed to be offensive or dumb.

We're playing in teams. I'm with the Danish girl. The aim is to choose the funniest or most outlandish answer to whatever sentence is read out. The card we picked out was "we have to stop _____" everyone chose their answers and it was our turn so I'm reading the answers out loud and get to "the tide of Islam" which I laugh at and everyone suddenly gets super awkward except the two dudes who picked it.

I pick that as the funniest card and except for the two guys that chose the card, everyone else awkwardly shuffles in their seats. Then the split awkwardness passes until we find another card "only _____ are allowed in heaven"

One team (the American and Italian) choose "white people" from their selection of cards

The Spanish dude didn't even wanna read it out loud because he was like "that's racist" then he gets into how Americans have no manners. I'm sitting there like "oop.. 👀"

Then all their eyes are on me because I'm evidently the big brown elephant in the room. So I break the ice and tell them it's funny and I would've picked that one if it was my turn which was true.

None of it would have been awkward if they didn't make it awkward.

Like yeah, my appearance is obvious but chill. It's far more ostracising not being part of the joke than it is to laugh along after reading the room correctly.
