The Stormcloaks.
"I fight for the men I've held in my arms, dying on foreign soil! I fight for their wives and children, whose names I heard whispered in their last breath. I fight for we few who did come home, only to find our country full of strangers wearing familiar faces. I fight for my people impoverished to pay the debts of an Empire too weak to rule them, yet brands them criminals for wanting to rule themselves! I fight so that all the fighting I've already done hasn't been for nothing! I fight... because I must."
Really?? Ever hear the empire speak as impassioned. And with that kind of conviction? Or have the lofty goals in mind he does?
So the high king was shouted down, he was weak and not deserving of it. But his wife, in Solitude MAY be deserving of it. Which is a shame. (As a moot has to occur) The sides seem split in loyalty in the providence between east half and west half. The west half favoring Ulfric.

@ArwenPandora: I mean of the 9 holds that are split about evenly , with the Eastern half favoring the Empire and the Western help the Stormcloaks. But a high King has to unite ALL of the providence. And that will be an great issue for the next high King- whom ever one may choose.
Look at Whiterun-more than likely the first real city we come to after the town of Riverwood. We spend forever there. We may even but our first house there. Yet they (except for the Grey manes) dislike the Stormcloaks and are considered part of the Empire. And one may be asked to betray and attack these people ewe may have got to know quite a bit. it is some time, and many battles later, that we come to a settlement that is under the influence of Ulfric.

@Elandra77: Betraying Balgruuf ( and Whiterun ) is the part I hate the most about going Stormcloak.
If there was a Balgruuf side I would gladly side with it, but as for now... Stormcloaks.
Ulfric's cause is fair, but him as a character is meh...His a good speaker, but when you see past his beautiful speeches and play the game long enough, you get that he's there for power...For what he believe in too, but for power. Then again, everyone wants Power, so whatever. That, and the fact that he's a racist, for good reasons, but still racist.
But the cause is just and fair, and there would've been a rebellion if there wasn't oppression in the first place.
The Empire is ugh...Even taking into consideration that they are trying to postpone the confrontation with the Thalmors until they gain enough power, which makes their decisions kinda logical...I just can't stand how they welcomed them, letting them kill/torture Talos worshippers. A bunch of cowards afraid to take actions...
Both sides are equal. But my backstory fits the stormcloaks.

@ArwenPandora: I have about 225 hours on my PS3 version and I am closing in on 200 on my PS4- my PC version I have no started- yet.
he is a good speaker. A great one. And maybe he has the voice (not "the VOICE") that can reunite all people. And yet he is about power. But controls is what drives the empire, at all costs. And their banning of Talos worship infuriates me as well. Signing the treaty with the Aldemari Dominion was very wrong- and it showed cowardice. I do not want cowards ruling over me.

I was a Dunmer in my PS3 version and a Nord in my PS4. I loved being an elf in Morrowind in 2002 when it was new. That game was much better then Oblivion. I have an unopened copy of Arena- with free mousepad for the PC.
(I have been playing video/computer games since 1977!)
