@carsonfry OMG?? You are a programmer?
sybille · 26-30, F
@carsonfry lol yes, I am. You too?
carsonfry · 22-25, M
@sybille I do it on the side. I never got certified, but yes and I am good at it.

What do you program and in what language?
sybille · 26-30, F
@carsonfry Currently doing Android development so I mostly work with Java. I'm actually a software engineering student though so still learning. What do you work with?
carsonfry · 22-25, M
@sybille As I said, I learned programming in Basic when I was 13 or so.

I write in Qbasic, and I have learned C++, but Qbasic ran faster on my machine, so I went back to Qbasic.

I want to learn how to write phone apps. They say it is not really hard at all if you already have the skill. I just have not pursued it yet.

@carsonfry Sure, it isn't that difficult for someone who learns the languages incrementally and has grasped the OOP concepts by working with another language first, like C++ or C#.
We were actually taught C first. Then I moved to C++, JavaScript and finally to Java. If you decide to go into the Android app development side, then I wish you all the best 👍️

@sybille I appreciate your advice. I know C++, it is not much different from Qbasic. Never moved on to Java. Should that be the next step?
sybille · 26-30, F
@carsonfry Yeah, give it a go.
carsonfry · 22-25, M
@sybille I will, what is the best book? Java for dummies?
sybille · 26-30, F
@carsonfry Java: The Complete Reference by Herbert Schildt is a pretty good one. It's around a 1000 page book so it covers everything lol. I would also suggest the Android Dev course on Udacity.

@sybille Thank you very much. I appreciate your advice.
