Good morning! How do you think about corporations and people doing business and communicating in a privately owned "metaverse"?

Shouldn't that be something that We the People provide, With a level playing field?

Problem is both the US and the United Kingdom gave up all rights to what is now called the Internet decades ago.

@DeWayfarer can't rights be defined for the public, and responsibility for governments?
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Stopmakingsense nope! Look at who they gave the standards rights to.

IETF:
The IETF Trust was created by the Internet Society and the Corporation for National Research Initiatives as settlors, the Internet Engineering Task Force and the Initial Trustees on December 15, 2005 ..
.

And before that IANA and the W3C
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is the main international standards organization for the World Wide Web.Founded in 1994 and currently led by Tim Berners-Lee, the consortium is made up of member organizations that maintain full-time staff working together in the development of standards for the World Wide Web. As of 21 October 2019, W3C had 443 members.
All of theses are international organizations and corporations not beholding to any country.

@DeWayfarer so that's the convention that needs changed. Permanent laws don't exist.

@Stopmakingsense when you give any corporation that kind of power you have already let the genie out of its bottle.

Except this is no ordinary genie. This is a Jinn aka djinn that controls genies.

When I got into the internet there was only IANA and the W3C and ISO. You might think of CDs and DVDs when comes to ISO. It's worlds beyond that.

@Stopmakingsense ISO's are another very important international branch that predates the internet and continues on today as a different set of standards that extremely few even think about.

Must say any of these ISO's are available freely everywhere else on the internet yet here you must "BUY" them!!!

The original ASCII ISO standards predating the internet.

https://www.iso.org/standard/6825.html?browse=tc

And other ASCII related ISOs.

https://www.iso.org/search.html?q=ASCII&hPP=10&idx=all_en&p=0

Today's internet security standards. Those involving "... security of assets such as financial information, intellectual property, employee details or information entrusted by third parties."

https://www.iso.org/isoiec-27001-information-security.html

And finally crypto currencies like Bitcoin which are under no governments control

https://www.iso.org/standard/39921.html

This ISO organization is also internationally run and under no countries control.

Must note this organization controls far far more standards across the world. Sort of like an international weights and measures standards organization, accept a whole world bigger.

See their main page for everything else. It's huge beyond huge
