The internet was suppose to improve communication, but it’s killed socialising.

When I tell teens now that I approached my wife in a club, we had instant chemistry and we danced the night away, they look at me like I’ve got superpowers that were somehow lost in time.

They tell me guys aren’t that confident and the girls are likely to report you for harassment. It’s apparently preferable to swap WhatsApp and message. Instead of actually talking over cocktails and floor fillers.

Apparently this has died out…

What was your wife doing at a club?

What were you doing at a club.

The "club scene" social normal was to meet, mingle, have a couple of drinks, dance and try to score. If someone said no, then no harm no foul. If someone did not take no for an answer, then it's harrassement.

If you had approached your wife at a library, and asked her for a dance, that would have sounded weird, and she would have probably complained.

If the "kids" are on a specific "meeting people" social media site, and an overture was made, then no one is going to call harassment. If the person doing the asking does not take no for answer, then it's a problem and most people understand the difference.

If they're on an archaeology web site, then it's not kosher to ask someone out on a date, as an opener. Or send a dick pic.

There's a difference, and it's not weird to start a relationship online.

People still meet each other in clubs and bars. I have met men in bars. We do both nowadays; meeting online, and in bars and other places. Work romances still happen.

My cousins, all still in their teens (eldest is 18) all socialize. They do spend a lot of time on their phones, but they go out and spend time with their friends, staying at their houses and so on. Yesterday, my cousins were telling me how there are girls going out with older boys at their school. They also did tell me they know of some trans kids, and a girl who has decided she is lesbian. I am going out with them to a few social events in October. We are also getting together for my birthday. My male cousin confessed to me yesterday that he is smoking and drinking alcohol. To smoke and drink alcohol, he has to go out and socialize. It was different with my parents because they smoked and drank alcohol and I could drink at home with them from 13 onwards, sometimes going out and doing it too.
