📆 Is there something you have to do that you have been putting off for later?

Why do you think we delay doing those things that we know have to be dealt with?

Is it because we are lazy?
Or we don’t have time?

Is it because we are afraid to do it?
Or because we are afraid we can’t do it right?

Is it because we don’t want to know the final outcome?
Or because we are hoping circumstances would change if we delay the decision one more day?

What really stops you?

My apartment is full of little chores that have not begun or are in progress. Some have been deferred for a decade. Some have been in progress for years.

I may move in a year so I am determined to get it all done. Since some of the chores involve sifting through stuff and deciding what to keep, what to trash, and what to donate. Then I will pack less!

Some chores are the laundry, dishwashing, etc. My problem is I've bought too many items over time, so it is very rare that I run out of clean socks or bowls, etc. But I use them so the dirty ones pile up. Then I finally do loads in a flurry to clear out the pile. Then I have a pile of clean things to put away. I delay that, too. Then another flurry of activity. It is very rare that a pile is eliminated. And then it gets added to again. I am trying to get in the habit now of keeping up on it and attacking those piles.

When I get on top of these things, it is amazing all the new open space I have on my floors and counters, LOL!

For me it's that I don't want to do it.
Life revolves around work, if i had my way, id have a homestead parcel of land, & my kids would be homeschooled, but i wasn't born into a position like that, and earning it through an honest living doesn't make it reality.

I get anxious about outcomes. I feel responsible for what happens so I put things off. It took me four years to sort a gate out!
@Mrjingleswilly
How did it turn out?

Fine. Found a decent guy to fit it, all good. Won’t make it any easier with the next job, though. @CookieCrumbs

Out of my control. We are bone dry here and my small river has dried up. No skinnydipping for some time.

@CookieCrumbs you have no idea.....

You proposed my usual reason .... "because we are afraid we can’t do it right"
@AllAboutLaffs
I know that feeling too…

We delay doing it because we are afraid to fail. What we don’t realize that maybe if we do it, we will learn what it needs to be what it should be.

@CookieCrumbs Yup ... there really is only one way to find out ....

The things I put off are tedious and less enjoyable.
