Most people need to relate and have a lot in common to be friends.

There's so much beauty in diversity though. So much to learn. So many stories, traditions, expertise.

Chatting with someone very different than me is like reading a book full of adventure.

Not that I don't enjoy people I relate to, it's just that if we always gravitate towards people like us, we're missing out on endless edification and captivation.

I would think it would stunt your growth mentally to only surround yourself with people who only like what you like and only believe what you believe. I learned pretty early in adulthood that I had a whole world out there to explore and learn about, and I’m still learning at my ripe old age.
