I’m pretty sure I talked to a fake profile all day

The profiles on here with a green checkmark next to the username (I think I have one on mine, but it JUST told me it was verified, so I can't say for sure if it's shown up yet lol) mean that the account is verified. That basically means that if you click on the checkmark, it shows you a picture that has been confirmed by the site to be real (You do that by holding up a piece of paper that says "SimilarWorlds, lists your username, and the date", and they compare that picture of you holding that up with another picture of yourself you send in.

So while I can't guarantee they won't still be faking experiences, you at least know that they are the age and gender they say they are lol.

Think of making acquaintances, rather than friends. Don’t invest too much of yourself in anyone online. This way you will weather the disappointments, that inevitably come, much better.

You can get to meet fake people in real life too. And you can find the real people here too.

It is tricky to make real friendships on here, but not impossible.
Is there a reason for looking here, though, rather than, you know, your workplace, the local bar, volunteer work... real life stuff?

I [i]have [/i]made genuine friends here, but there are a lot of people to wade through who [i]act[/i] like they're your friend, but aren't.

Some are easy to spot right away, others not so. Recently realised I was chatting with a fake person after months. Turned out to be a real jerk/sicko.

Depends who you choose to talk to. If they have no posts and barely any profile views. Probably fake.
