@JoyfulSilence Stay warm and be safe. How much did you get? Did they close the government?
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
@Musicman

An inch or two.

It's Sunday! I took a drive. Still far from home. Time to drive back before sunset!
Musicman · 61-69, M
@JoyfulSilence An inch or two isn't bad. Did you go out for breakfast?
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
@Musicman

Yeah.

Then I took a drive. I am still out in the country. I am ready to drive home now.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@JoyfulSilence I am just the opposite today. I haven't been anywhere today.
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
@Musicman

I am home now. Safe and sound and warm.

It is 19 degrees outside right now and dark.

@JoyfulSilence Excellent! We have all the sliders open right now and the HVAC turned off. I love saving money. 🙂

@Musicman

I have the heat cranked up. I do not care how much it costs!
Musicman · 61-69, M
@JoyfulSilence Our electric bill in the summer can run $285 - $300 a month.

@Musicman

Ouch

I like it warm. But not humid.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@JoyfulSilence That's why I love being able to turn off the HVAC in the winter.
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
@Musicman

I am glad you have nice weather.

It will be a few months until it starts to get pleasant again. I wore boots for the first time this season.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@JoyfulSilence Boots are good. I have a pair of brown leather tennis that I wear on colder days in the winter. I also have a really nice blue fleece jacket from LL Bean I enjoy wearing on the colder mornings.

@Musicman

I accumulated three pairs over the years, for when one gets wet, and then an extra.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@JoyfulSilence That is really smart thinking. 🙂
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
@Musicman

I have even more shoes!
Musicman · 61-69, M
@JoyfulSilence Excellent! Do you really like shoes?
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
@Musicman

In the past, I had like one or two pairs, and always found it hard to find shoes I liked that fit, when one pair wore out. So I made it a habit of looking at shoes, just in case I found something. If the price was good, I would buy. If not, I would wait, since sometimes they actually drop.

Over time I accumulated more than I needed, still driven by fear of not finding anything when I needed to. It is irrational. But not unjustified, since every time I find something I like, in only a few years they change it to something I don't like, and I wish I would have bought two. In fact, mist of the shoes I own are no longer made and there is nothing similar. So annoying.

I had to stop, though. I have like 8 pairs of shoes. I would have more but over the past few years pairs have worn out so I tossed them. At least that is normal. But 8 pairs of shoes is overkill.

I also had a habit of buying clothes, plates, cups, bowls, pans, silverware, towels, sheets, and blankets I did not need. Sometimes I was just bored. I had to stop all that, too. Now, I only allow myself to replace old or worn stuff. But I should wait more, to reduce inventory!

I am somewhat glad I have plenty, since when I see today's prices, I cringe. Yes, my pay goes up, but inflation has messed up my whole sense of the proper cost of things. Inflation was slow enough in the past where I could adapt. Now, it is too shocking. Like $120 for a shirt that used to cost $70 a few years ago, and which back then I felt was only really worth $40. I mean, sometimes I would find decent shirts for $20 in clearance. But I have too many shirts!
Musicman · 61-69, M
@JoyfulSilence I can definitely understand and relate to this. For some reason shoes don't seem to last very long anymore either. 😠

I definitely buy more shirts than pants. Then for a while I started buying two of everything. One for the house and one for the motorhome. That way I didn't have to load and unload it. Sadly these days it's all in the house. ☹
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
@Musicman

I need a house so I can store my stuff better.

Then I can get more, too! 🤪

I literally have no more room.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@JoyfulSilence Yesssss!!!! You definitely need a house with a large detached garage for additional storage. 😁
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
@Musicman

I could pay for a garage at my apartment complex. But I am cheap and do not have garage stuff.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@JoyfulSilence Just think of all the shoes you could store in a garage. 😍
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
@Musicman

I could put my car in it. Never have to scrape ice off my windshield again!
Musicman · 61-69, M
@JoyfulSilence That is a definite benefit too. 🙂
