My Grandfather
Had several interesting sayings. Some of which, to this day, I do not understand.
One such saying was, "He couldn't grab his ass with both hands if it was a bass fiddle."
I never quite got it, but when I think back to who it was directed at in one particular case, someone who is actually still around and I have dealings with, I have to agree with the assessment.
As I got older, I thought perhaps he had sort of mixed his metaphors so to speak. I had heard of "He couldn't hit a bull's ass with a bass fiddle" and "He couldn't pull his head out of his ass if he used both hands" and thought I had stumbled on where it came from.
As it turns out though, nostalgia makes me like my grandpa's version better...and as I grow older, it seems more applicable, because it is likely to confuse the person it is directed at.
I think I will stick with it.
