I Think Good Friends Are Rare

I think you should respect people's anonymity online. If a person joind this site just to vent and have fun then she/he might not want to say their real first name, state, etc. It does not even matter if the person acts nice, you still have to be cautious and you still have a right to be anonymous.

I joined SW, and EP before it, for the anonymity it offers. I can't understand, however, why anyone knowing my first name - or even the nearest city to me - is going to compromise that. I do understand that women have much more fraught experiences online than males - and I do genuinely sympathise - but some of the comments I've read here smack of clinical paranoia.

You think people are too paranoid of others knowing their identity ? @ArtieKat

@SW-User I don't see how - for example - you knowing that my name is Anthony, I live near Liverpool in the UK and that I'm between 61 and 69 years old, means you could possibly trace me.

@ArtieKat What about if they have your phone number?

@SW-User There's only one friend from EP days who has my phone number and whom I talk to regularly.
