Before the war I had no adverse feelings about the Russians living in Ukraine, but .....

When the corruption of a pro-Russian President came to light and he had to step down from leading the nation the Russians in our midst began to agitate for separate status, and amalgamation with Putin's Russia. This was in full and direct violation of the agreements for independence within the Confederation of Independent States (CIS) which the Russians totally signed up to in partnership. Then with the desecration of the constitutional establishment of an independent Ukraine and annexation of the Crimea, long a province of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic which had been a constituent member of the Soviet Union, and in the 1990's an independent state, Republic, the process which brought an invasion from Russia of all Ukrainian lands, some never with Russian enclaves within them.

The Donbas is Ukraine. This argument led to the break up of my relationship with a boyfriend of two years who said otherwise. The Russians live in our midst because of the need of labour for many building projects effected by the Ukrainian SSR during Soviet days. Anatoly Borisovich Galyorkin was wrong, and in typical Russian fashion became intransigent to reason, so we stopped being a couple! I cannot stand people unable to, incapable of, reason. Bullies do nothing for me, and seeing him in this light was very eye-opening, and destructive to the well-being of our relationship. I consider myself delivered of a relationship inevitably doomed to failure, it would never be a partnership of reasoning minds.
This makes sense more than anything that I have read on the situation there.
