I find myself hating it when people invite you to hangouts just to get you to attend their org activities, even if it is church.

I know it is essential to making connections. But for one looking for genuine connections, it is a red flag and a turn off.

So my move is to be as honest without trying to offend, and set my own intentions. I do not want to make friends by tying me to an organization or a new group.

I just want new good and real connections. If later, it comes to a point where it leads to me choosing to be part of a full group for a while at least, then I can decide if I ever find myself in that position. But for that to be the only reason I'll connect with someone...no, I do not want that.

Been there. Done that. Cell group leaders and life group leaders who are there for as long as you obey and attend things and spend time on things.

I am looking for a friend for life, in and out of a group or location. Not people who want to manipulate me into playing a part. I have had enough of that.
