What's your definition of a friend ?

My definition is as follows.:

Someone in which you can place everything you hold dear, everything you treasure most into thier care and you know it will be safe. When I use this standard I only really have two or three friends.

There are different levels of friendship in my opinion. To me a true friend, like a kindred spirit, is someone who is genuine, open, honest, loyal, and humble. They can be counted on through thick and thin. They have seen you at your best and seen you at your worst and they accept you and love you just the same....but they also love you enough to tell it to you straight when you are making a mistake or doing something wrong. They don't tell you and then walk away, they stay beside you and help you overcome it. They are also not afraid to admit their own mistakes and apologize when they hurt you. They do life and share life's joys, sorrows, laughs, tears, secrets, etc with you. My hope is that those who call me friend feel and know that I strive to be this kind of person, to the best of my ability.

@SW-User A wonderful expansion on @Quoththeraven's original definition.
Sad;y, still means that there are very few REAL friends in anyone's life.
