What would you do?

Got a friend I have known for over 30 years. He is not educated and I am a postgraduate. Until recently we got on well together.
But lately he seems to critcise everything I do and worst copies me. Example yesterday I bought a new pair of reading glasses. Cheap ones. I put them on my desk and went to bed. Today when I got up I looked for them everywhere could not find them. My friend turned up and I asked him has he seen my glasses. He said no. But then suddenly he went upstairs and came down with them. He said they were on the shelf. I know they were not because I checked earlier. Which means he must have had them. What should I do tell him to stop lying and not let him in the house in future or just ignore it.

Call him on it. Tell him that he is jeopardizing this friendship by being deceitful. Ask him if something has happened recently that has him resenting you, or if it's something in a different area of his life that is causing this aberrant behaviour.
