I much prefer calling to texting. I even prefer email over texting. At least its more reliable.
I've received texts that were originally sent almost a month before I got them. I've no way to know how many were sent that I never received, and their senders typically have no way to know, either.
With email, an error message is always sent to the sender whenever a message cannot be delivered, and it includes the reason why, although that may be technical.
