Why does my best friend always think I'm rude when I'm just stating the facts?

Okay so when I told her about this guy I liked she was like, "Does he go to your high school?" I was like, "Hell no! I wish he did though."
She said, "Jeez I was just asking. That was rude." I was like, "Well it's true." Then I explained the rest of the story.
When my friend asks for an honest answer or opinion, I tell her straight up but I'm not rude. I was being sincere.
I shouldn't have to apologize for being direct and honest. My dad taught us to be outspoken and stand up to what we believe. I always stand up for myself and I'm not afraid to. Best friends should be honest with each other, even it it's painful. I may be a sweet heart but I'm not going to let people push me over. Some people think I'm rude for standing up for myself. Of course I don't say shit unless I'm asked.
Would my best friend rather me lie to her to protect her feelings?

She asked a yes or no question. You should answer with a yes or a no.

@Zeuro ok tell me then

@UnlovedDaughter01 the point is saying “HELL NO” to a simple question like does someone go to your school is rude. It’s not the meaning of what you said, it’s how you said it.

@Zeuro Oh I see. I guess I should have said it the right way but it's who I am. I'm a sweet person but not too sweet. I don't wanna come off as too nice

The “hell no” was completely unnecessary. You can be direct and honest without being rude. A simple “no” would have sufficed. I have a feeling it was also your tone of voice that came off as rude

@Zeuro What difference does it make? It's the same answer. I should not have to apologize for my answer. I have nothing to be sorry for.

@UnlovedDaughter01 you’re telling me that if someone offers me something like a glass of water, and I say “fuck no!” I’m not being rude because it means the same thing as “no thank you”? Vulgar reactions to benign questions are rude

@Zeuro Well no I wouldn't say that. That's different.
