You can decide to extend your trust to those who earn it over a significant period of time. You do not automatically owe anyone your trust. You can extend some trust provisionally if you like someone and then see how worthy of it they are. The idea that you have "trust issues" implies that being slow and careful about trusting someone is somehow pathological; actually, it's just a step on the road to maturity. Young people trust easily and therefore are often hurt. Older people know better.
