I’d love to have a hobby friend. The lady I bought my 1952 Pfaff sewing machine was so nice to talk to, we couldn’t stay long but it was enjoyable and I thought it’d be nice to have someone with hobbies in common.

@cherokeepatti That's one of those things which brings people very close.

@MasterofNone You can sit and do hobbies together and talk up a storm. I thought having a class in creativity for hobbies would be good. To meet up a couple times a month bringing the projects from the previous meeting’s theme to show and compare (and take photos) and then leave with a new “surprise theme”... no one tells wha they are gonna do and see the creativity and artistry the next week.

@cherokeepatti those are the classes where one can really have fun. Glad you've found one. Thanks for sharing.

@MasterofNone I haven’t found one, would love to. Seems like the Senior Citizens Centers mostly do ceramics. I would love a creativity group with all sorts of crafts to learn and share with a common theme to work on each time. Would love to see exhibits of these things.

@cherokeepatti Oh right you said you just thought about them. Have you tried finding them ? Specific kinds of groups can be hard to find. Maybe you would want to start one. Sounds cool.

@MasterofNone There used to be community groups for home etc type things where the women would get together in their community buildings at regular times, most of those have died out now.

@cherokeepatti Why ? People have lost interest ? Due to technology ?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@MasterofNone Technology, more women in the workforce and people hole up at home instead of getting out.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
@cherokeepatti Workforce thing is okay because there are always retired people but technology has so destroyed the culture where people used to meet physically.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@MasterofNone even when they do meet they sit around looking at their phones. It’s rude to do that.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
@cherokeepatti haha yes that's bad, phone has become an extended self for many.

@MasterofNone I like to use my laptop and IPad to find recipes and ideas of things to do such as crafts or tips & hacks.
MasterofNone · 26-30, M
@cherokeepatti I use them whenever I can. I definitely prefer laptop when I'm at home and free.
Phone is really taking control though.
