Why does he excessively bring up his girlfriend all of a sudden?

My guy friend just recently got into a relationship with a teacher at my school that is twice his age. I barely talk to him but whenever I do he excessively brings her up through text to the point where it's just annoying. Idk what to do because its clear I definitely don't like him in that way since I've told him I'm with someone else and these two have been dating for not even a month now. I'm just confused. guys help me out

@Sassygirl yep that’s what popped into my mind , that he likes you and feels a little inadequate... so he brags ( verbosely) so you’ll think he’s special and get jealous

@TexChik I don't see the point in it. He got with her before I started dating this guy. I did let him know that I used to have a crush on him but still. I want him to stop but I feel like he'll take offense to me asking him to not bring her up in almost every sentence even with things that have absolutely nothing to do with her.
