Why are there no official friendship breakups like in relationships?

At least I'd know if I was bothering someone or if it's okay to message them every once in a while. How do people know they aren't friends with someone anymore?

You start getting replies to your texts that take much longer to arrive and start with sorry I have just been so busy, and the replies are more superficial and finally you plan to meet up and they never get back to you with a day.

@Melpomene That is true, some people are genuinely sorry for the delay in replying as they have busy lives.

Also I have had friends where we hardly have talked for months because we have been so busy, but then suddenly we are talking again, yet I have an online friend in the US and we have talked every day for nearly 5 years... maybe missed 3 days in that time so I don't know there's an easy way to tell.
