How to identify a fake friend?

Do you have had fake friends? How did you eventually figured that they were fake and dropped your affection for them?

I realize that mental illness can cause this, but if they avert their eyes when they shake my hand, I pretty much know there will be no friendship. I've never had a 'fake friend'.
