Why is making friends difficult?

I'm just asking, if you have had difficulty making friends, what has been difficult about it? What has made it hard for friends to stick?

I don't have that many friends, but I do have a few good ones. I met most of them through one particular person. If I didn't know him, I don't know that I'd be friends with all the people I met through him. So I kinda feel like I got lucky. I think I'm most held back by social anxiety. But I definitely rely on other people for social situations. I never initiate anything.

You have friends in real life that you see and hang out with on a regular basis?

Or just online friends?

@SumKindaMunster Both. I do have real in-person friends. But only a few, and I knew other people that I just "drifted away" from. I know it becomes more pronounced as you get older.

@WestonTexan It's good you have that real life friends. Spend time with them even if you are just in each other's company. It will help you feel more fulfilled and secure.

My personal experience in life is that I don't need a LOT of friends, but just a couple of good ones. Cultivate the friendships that matter to you.
