Friends car towed

Friends car got towed by baby mama because she’s was being spiteful and they want 16k for it. It had his daughter’s Christmas gifts in the back. Can they charge that much for a car?

Sounds like it got repo'd and none of them were paying on it and they want that much because thats whats left in the note, most car companies usually have a 2nd chance payment option.

Usually theyll demand a percentage of the payment usuakly like 1 or 2k to restart payment plans again but you cant be late at all.
