quite the same without them.

No one... If they didn't care enough to stay in contact with me then, they aren't worth my time now.

Life has a way of showing you who cares about you - and who wants to stay in your life...

@HootyTheNightOwl some people have to find themselves and that they can only do on there own.
@Beautywithin I have to protect myself, too. I have a habit of giving too much of myself to the wrong people... then, when they ultimately leave me, I have nothing left for myself.

So now, I don't try to stop people from leaving if they want to go - but I don't hold the door open in the hope that they change their mind, either.

@HootyTheNightOwl I too learnt the hard way.

@HootyTheNightOwl I have to learn to do this too. Too much pain. If somebody wants you in their life, they won't let you go. They won't come up with different excuses
@Beautywithin In high school, I had one friend... for a few months. She was the only reason I liked going to school. She would be my only female friend.

One day, I accidentally ruined her pencil case by splashing it with some chemical we had been mixing in class as I tipped it down the sink (the chemical wouldn't come out) - we ended up not talking over that.

This was in her last few weeks at the school... and, though we patched up our friendship before she left school and moved away with her parents, we never got the closeness we had before that back because I never forgave myself for that - so we never remained in contact after she left school.

The following year, I changed class because I couldn't take any more of the group that I was left with without her there. It didn't make that much difference for me, but, at least I had a friend through the rest of my time at school.
