What kind of friend are you?

Are you completely honest and blunt, even if it’s not what they want to hear?

Or do you tell them what they want to hear to make them feel better?

@Elanor That makes perfect sense. I guess it boils down to using the right response depending on the person and their situation, as all are different. Congratulations on the best (and only) answer :)

There are ways of being honest without being "blunt" (or rude).
DHggmu · 31-35, M
@Fluffybull There are, I guess it depends on the person. Me and my best friend since high school have always said it how it is instead of beating around the bush, if he’s in the wrong about something I’ll tell him, but I can still empathise. And he’s the same with me, he’s probably more blunt.

@DHggmu It's good to have a friend like that! 👏👏🤗

I try to be tactful but I don't always realize that what I say might be hurtful to another person. And I'm definitely not the type of a person to say it's going to be okay when everything suggests it won't.

@CrazyMusicLover Exactly, it’s tough. What’s the point in lying, you can be truthful but still empathise..

@DHggmu I can't always empathize but don't see a reason to be an ass about it either. It's okay that we don't always understand the actions of the others but we can bite our tongue and not meddle instead of pushing our opinions on others.
DHggmu · 31-35, M
@CrazyMusicLover I couldn’t agree more. One thing I hate is people pushing their opinions where they’re not wanted/needed. At the very least we can just listen.
Not exactly either. I’ll often say, “What I could say might upset you. Would you rather I don’t say it?”
And then respect what they choose. I’m more of a listener. And I only offer brutal honesty to people I’m closest with. Everyone else can be wrong for all I care. Friends to a very specific point. 😬

DHggmu · 31-35, M
@Minxxy8o Best way to be I think, no sugarcoating here :)

Yep. That's why I have no friends. The world is way too sensitive for me to have friends.

Probably for the best.
Honest is my default setting .
Blunt is what I'm trying to improve upon .

And trying to limit what I say .
Ive learnt that some things need not be said at all

@OogieBoogie Agreed. If it’s a close friend I’ll say it how it is. If it’s not, I like the approach of not saying anything.

I try to be tactful if it's a real friendship
