Met up with and old friend for coffee.

In the course of the conversation he started talking about the silly commercials he sees on TV. I had to smile since I had no idea what he was talking about. I don't have a TV!

Good for you!
Do you have a radio?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@helenS There is a radio in my truck and have a clock radio on my bedside table. I never turn either of them on.
helenS · 36-40, F
@hippyjoe1955 I made my own AM radio when I was 15.

@helenS That is so cool! I used to listen to shortwave radio a lot when I was a kid.

@hippyjoe1955 I had a shortwave radio, but that wasn't self-made. Shortwave is much more difficult to make.
I loved how shortwave signals became stronger at night.

@helenS that's because AM frequencies bounce off the ionosphere in perpetuity after sunset. AM stations are requiŕed to power down after nightfall to prevent clusterfucking 😎

@Slade This I didn't know – thank you 🌷
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@helenS Yeah I loved to listen to the national voices. BBC, Voice of America etc. I would have loved to listen to the Soviet shortwave broadcast but I don't understand Russian.

@helenS we had a cabin in New Hampshire as kids. We had a crappy radio but we could still get stations from Montreal, Cincinnati and even Texas at night. On Cape Cod we listened to Limbaugh's rebroadcast from Baĺtomore at night
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Slade That is true. If I have the time and am travelling at night I tune to the AM band to see how many AM stations I can listen to and am often amazed at how far away they are. I was in northern Alberta listening to Flagstaff Arizona. I was in Manitoba and listening to Vancouver BC. So much fun when the weather conditions are just right.

@hippyjoe1955 Now I have internet radio, and I can listen to any station on the planet!
Slade · 56-60, M
@hippyjoe1955 Yes. And geography too

@helenS in college we'd listen to the low frequency AM statìon in which the all porn drive in sent their audio out (they were done with those crappy speakers).

For certain uptight individuals we set their clock radios to it at random times 😈

@helenS ok, which are the best sex shows? 🤔
helenS · 36-40, F
@Slade Al Jazeera English in Qatar, of course 😏

@helenS Ugh! They were our client at my job

They wear their laundry on their head!
