I was told by my mom that as a little kid that when I would sleep, I would be sitting up in bed with my eyes wide open. When I was 23, I started having seizures. Apparently my sitting up in bed as a kid with my eyes open was a prelude to having grand mal seizures. I know this because I did some research on it. There are times when I will stare, and I chalk it up to being a part of a neurological disorder.
Soooo, I would look into it. It could be something more than just a plain old stare. Best bet is get a brain MRI scan, and/or an EEG. Electroencephalogram is the full term of it. If you have medical insurance, it should cover some of the costs of those scans.
